the live/work

The live/work is a two-story cottage with room for a small garage, or for an independent space that can be a home office, a fitness area, or an art studio or workshop.

The upper floor opens to a panoramic view of the surroundings and the tree tops of Seattle, while staying private. Its form borrows from Pacific Northwest fire lookouts and the feel of a tree house.

It works two ways. As a garage house, the upper floor is a studio unit. As a live/work house, the ground floor holds a flexible work space and a bedroom suite, and the upper level is left open for social space.

The square plan has service and circulation cores at opposite ends and an open floor plan, which leaves many options for car access and window placement. The amount of glazing can be adjusted to suit different budgets and sites.
